“What is really happening, is that brother has murdered brother knowing it was his brother. White Men have lynched Negroes knowing them to be their sons, White women have had Negroes burned knowing them to be lovers. Its not a racial problem its a problem of whether or not you’re willing to look at your life and be responsible for it and then bring change to it.” - James Baldwin
This triptych is a depiction of the of the effects of slavery and the inner Turmoil of being a man of color. Drew a lot of inspiration from Basqiat and the words of James Baldwin. Some people want you to forget that heinous acts of lynching and slavery ever happened I think that it’s our job as artists to explore uncomfortable subjects so we can move forward and make ourselves better.
